The Massachusetts Army National Guard’s Caisson team is a return to tradition. This partnership between the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment Honor Guard and the National Lancers provides full military funeral honors to commissioned officers Colonel and above.
Weekly drills are held, during which the Lancers and Honor Guard rehearse all stages of funeral missions. Our training standards insure that all funeral missions are carried out with the highest level of honor, respect, and professionalism for the service member being laid to rest and their Next of Kin.
Training includes:
- Prepping horses for transport
- Loading carriages and equipment
- Transport to and from the mission location
- Tacking horses
- Ceremonial Drill
If you have a family member for whom you wish to receive funeral honors, you can contact the Massachusetts Military Funeral Honors Program.
National Lancers who have graduated the Troop A training program and actively train with Detachment D are eligible to serve in funeral caisson services.
